Lorville Outskirts - Star Citizen

Platform: PC

Designed this location while helping carve out Game Design for the brand new game mode Racing Time Trials within Star Citizen's Persistent Universe. Placed beside the large city of Lorville, this racetrack lays within a working mining pit where you can find cranes, refineries and structures fit for underground ship racing. Reimagined and set a standard for design for racetracks and how players can use existing structures to map out an exciting route with twists and turns to make for a an exhilarating place to fly their ships.

Completed Project Goals

  • Map out a fun and exciting route for players to fly through as a race track

  • Design one full racetrack level from concept to completion

  • Visualize and create a racing language that is clear to the player such as checkpoints and corners using natural structures

  • Support artists vision and communicate design best practices to best guide the player in racing

  • Support and reiterate design based on leads criticism

Markup definitions:

Yellow: The new additions to this community track Red: Player's race route

Green: Checkpoints

Yellow Numbers: Checkpoint numbers

Level Focus:

A. Player starts at Starting Point, countdown begins

B. Timer starts

C. Player flys through each checkpoing

D. Player finishes race through Finish Line

Replay Value:

Multiple beatable trophy times allow for players to be rewarded with different currencies based on the won time bracket.

Different ships will aliow players to score better times allowing players to retry race with different vehicles

Focus Points:

Yellow corners are pain points and can cause issues with players

being misguided

Create natural looking corners and structures to guide the player while maintaining a fun experience

Race Mode:

Time Trials

Race against the clock in a trophy based reward system.
