Tasked to create a world with full freedom of the world's design. This took the challenge of Level Designing to a whole new level with creating an entire seamless land that felt believable and worked with the narrative being created. This made it so everything from characters, missions, monsters to, last but not least, level design was all up to me to decide on how it played out in my particular level. Voxlands is a very collabrative project, allowing the team as a whole to decide on important gameplay mechanics and general game design. I would call it 'fluid' game development, with allowing everyone to take a part on what Voxlands really is as a game.
Heldonia
I wanted to create a world that offered everything, from underground tunnels, to docks on the ocean, to a cozy town with an interesting cast of characters. Heldonia is a town cursed with a spell that has suspended it into eternal darkness and monsters to scare you literally to death. This location was a fun way to test different level design strategies, as well as maintaining a theme throughout the land I was building. Art, dialogue, missions, all these things were out of my wheelhouse as a level designer, but boy did I enjoy taking a crack at all these things and eventually getting all these things in-game.
